A swift independent analysis of the Dutch response to the financial crisis is necessary. The Dutch government should start thinking independently. Only then might they be able to face the financial crisis and serve the interests of the Dutch population.

Consciousness involves intangible thoughts, feelings and people’s subjective experiences. It is exactly these subjective experiences that academia and policy makers insufficiently acknowledge as critical factor in shaping the future of Dutch international development cooperation.
